Basic Skills - Study Materials
The Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE) - Basic Skills competencies are broad, conceptual statements that reflect the general education knowledge and skills an entry-level educator needs to teach effectively in Minnesota public schools.
The MTLE website has general preparation information including test taking strategies. The site has a computer-based testing tutorial and practice exam software which provides an opportunity to learn how to navigate through computer-based examinations. The website includes a practice exam to become familiar with the operations of computer-based testing. Some MTLE practice tests may be purchased. A series of free study guides are available on the MTLE website. These study guides include details about test content and format, as well as sampe test questions. A practice test for all three subtests which may be purchased online for $29.95 at MTLE Expanded Study Guides.

These guides are aligned with current state standards and feature a complete practice test that includes test question rigor and skill reference, as well as full answer rationale.

The purpose of the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE) is to assess the knowledge and skills of prospective Minnesota public school educators. The MTLE helps the Minnesota Board of Teaching (Mn BOT) meet its goal of ensuring that candidates have the knowledge and skills needed to perform the job of an educator in Minnesota public schools. The MTLE are aligned with the Minnesota Standards of Effective Practice (Mn SEPs).
