The Board of Teaching has initiated the redevelopment of the Minnesota teacher licensure tests. Beginning September 1, 2010, Pearson Evaluation Systems will be the statewide test provider; assessing the basic skills, pedagogical, and subject area knowledge of Minnesota K–12 teacher candidates. These Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE) will be fully aligned with state Board of Teaching rules and standards and will contain the new reading, SEPs and technology standards.
Note: Teacher candidates have until August 31, 2009 to take and pass the Praxis I and II exam. Beginning September 1, 2010 all teacher candidates will need to take the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE) Basic skills, Pedagogical, and Subject area exams offered through Pearson Evaluation System. Although you will be tested over these new standards, the new standards will not count against our teacher candidates between September 1, 2010 to February 1, 2012.
Education students are required to pass the Praxis I and Praxis II exams for teacher licensure. In 2005-2006 MSU Praxis I examination pass rates were 91%. Praxis II examination pass rates were 97% on the Principles of Learning and Teaching, 98% academic content knowledge, and 100% for other content areas such as special education.

How to Prepare for the Praxis II Tests
The College of Education strongly recommends that you download the Test-At-A-Glance from http://www.ets.org/praxis/. ETS has developed the Test-At-A-Glance booklets to show the topics and subtopics contained on each test along with sample questions. In studying for the tests, review the topics, making sure you fully understand all of the content. If you need more information about some topics, consult your past coursework or library. Study Guides are available for purchase from ETS for some of the Praxis II tests. Study Guides developed by other publishers are available from major book stores, including the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on campus.
