Gain experience with elementary age children while giving back to community youth by volunteering with the ACES after school program. This program is run at elementary sites throughout Mankato Area Public Schools. Help is needed to assist with school age children in homework help, crafts, games, reading, math, snack, computer lab and more.

Come and volunteer in the Cougar Learning Lab. Help tutor 9th-12th grade students at East High School. The Cougar Learning Lab is run before school, during lunch and after school. Some students are required to go to the Cougar Learning Lab because they are behind or need extra help on their school work. Other students use this lab as a technology space. This is a homework help program.

Help tutor K-6 students in the EXCEL after school program, which is a learning supplement to the school day. The spring program is held January 9 through March 8. EXCEL is held at ten elementary school sites in ISD #77. Gain experience working with elementary age children and working in conjunction with teaching staff. This is a great way to network with Mankato teachers and schools.

This is a program specifically designed to make transition a positive experience for everyone at Mankato East High School. A critical component is the development of relationships between selected 9th grade students, academy teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, and mentors.  9th grade students will be supported using a variety of reading and math interventions that will not only eliminate failure as an option, but prepare students for graduation and success at 2 and 4 year colleges.

Volunteer Literacy Tutors: Volunteers are trained to provide literacy activities and reading interventions to children in small groups and one-on-one. A weekly commitment for the school year is desired. (No experience necessary!)

Third Floor is an unstructured program for students to hang out and have a place to go after the school day ends. Volunteers would hang out with children and organize games and activities. Volunteers can help anywhere from 1 to 5 days a week. Also, volunteers can plan special events or theme days such as an art activity, game, etc. if they are unable to make a long term commitment.

Come and assist Mankato Special Education staff with their swim day at the YMCA with the preschoolers. This activity for the students may be cut if we cannot find some volunteer support. Please come out and help and give these children a fun swim day at the YMCA!

Life Skills Series is seeking childcare volunteers to supervise the children of our refugee/New American participants. This program is sponsored by MN Council of Churches (MCC), Refugee Services and co-facilitated with Lloyd Management and the city of Mankato. The goal of the program is to provide educational tools and build relationships among neighbors through community dialogue.
