 - RANGER CHALLENGE TEAM EARNS 4TH AT ANNUAL COMPETITION

.5 points kept the Maverick Battalion Ranger Challenge Team from taking 2nd place in a close competition Oct 9th, 10th and 11th at Camp Ripley, MN.  Considering Saturday's AFPT started with 2 inches of snow and a biting breeze, the competition overall was a great success. The team took 1st place in the One Rope Bridge, their performance motivating and astonishing even the event evaluators.  The team split 2nd place on weapon's assembly with an exact time tie with SDSU.  The team earned a consistant 3rd place in 6 of the 8 events.  Events this year included: a written test, APFT, One Rope Bridge, M16 assembly/disassembly, M16 qualification, Land Navigation, Hand Grenade Assault Course and the finale of the 10k Ruck March. Morale remained high on the team of 9 plus two alternates that diligently followed the team through each event.  Outstanding effort Ranger Challenge Team!

- MAVERICK BN CADET RANKED 2ND IN THE NATION

Cadet Jeremy Milstead from MNSU ROTC has been ranked 2nd  out of 4702 senior cadets in the nation on the annual ROTC accessions. This determination comes from Cadet Command Headquarters and is based on the following merits:  GPA, performance at LDAC, PT scores, cadre recommendations and extra curricular activities. This is the highest ranking the Maverick Battalion has ever achieved in the nearly 30 years of the program at MSU.  Bethany student, Cadet Tim Harting ranked 29th in the nation, putting two Maverick BN cadets in the top thirty. Achieving such high rankings assists cadets with being able to have top choice of their preferred military branch and duty station upon graduation.  Congratulations CDTs Milstead and Harting, outstanding performance!

 - CADETS ASSIST MAVERICK MEN'S HOCKEY TEAM WITH LEADERSHIP AND TEAM BUILDING

Last week a group of cadets, guided by MSG Moore, completed phase III of a leadership development course with the Minnesota State University Men's Hockey team.  The article covers some great aspects of the leadership the cadets exhibit and how leadership and teamwork isn't just a military thing, but something that affects many aspects of life. MSIV Cadet Simi Dhaliwal, cadet public affairs, coordinated for the Mankato Free Press to cover the event.  The article ran front page of the Free Press on Monday, Sept 28th. Below is the link to this article.

- MOST IMPROVED ROTC BATTALION IN CADET COMMAND (273 PROGRAMS): SCHOOL YEAR 2008-2009

The ROTC Program at MNSU was recently recognized for being the Most Improved Battalion. The criteria for the Order of Merit list for the recognition are: The Degree of improvement in the battalion’s average accessions board OMS from the previous fiscal year, the degree improvement of the bat-talion’s average commission mission accomplishment rate from the previous mission set, the degree of improvement in the battalion’s cadet per-centages who earned ―best qualified‖ at the Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) from the previous year, the degree of improve-ment the battalion’s commissioning/retention rates from the previous fiscal year, the degree of improvement the battalion’s commissioning/retention rates of scholarship cadets from the previous fiscal year, and the degree of improvement in the battalion’s percentage of non-medical waiv-ers among contracted cadets. The award included a $2,500 prize. Since many of the bench marks for this award show the efforts and dedication of the cadets, LTC Cooper felt the best way to recognize these efforts was to improve the cadet lounge. The Battalion purchased a 42 inch LCD TV and a foosball table for the cadets to enjoy. Many of the cadets take advantage of having a spot on campus where they can relax and get together with their fellow cadets and challenge each other to a game of foosball or play some X-box between classes.
