The Aspiring Superintendents Cohort

This workshop provides aspiring superintendents with a realistic, practitioner-focused overview of the superintendency. A pre and post assessment tool focused on leadership skills will be administered and used. Practicing superintendents will serve as coaches and mentors. Participants will be coached on the presented knowledge, skills, and techniques. They will also be assisted with the development of a personalized internship experience and a competency-based portfolio.

Selected subject matter includes:

  • Characteristics, attributes and qualifications school boards are looking for in the superintendent
  • Communication strategies for effective communication
  • Problem solving strategies
  • Politicizing the superintendent position
  • Team building
  • Strategies for conflict resolution
  • Strategies for building coalitions and cooperation
  • Strategies for leading in a time of change

Integrating Experiential Learning Across the Curriculum

This workshop provides educators with a solid foundation of the theory and practices of experiential learning. Educators will discuss how to implement activities, projects, and field experiences into their classroom settings, design curriculum that promotes hands-on learning, develop performance based and formative assessment tools and techniques, and discuss how these ideas can be tied to continuous improvement plans. Examples of ongoing assessment techniques will be provided because they are vital in helping educators meet the needs of individual students. Educators will spend much of their time in work sessions developing lessons that utilize experiential learning, as well as creating assessment tools to match these lessons.

Selected subject matter includes:

  • Experiential methodologies such as problem based and project based learning
  • Applying problem solving methods to lessons
  • Multiple examples of hands-on activities
  • Content specific examples
  • Creating experiential lessons
  • Performance based and formative assessment tools

Individuals will leave this workshop with a better understanding of experiential learning tools for creating experiential lessons, assessment techniques, and all the information necessary to design and implement hands-on lessons.

Principals Promoting Effective Teaching

This two and a half day workshop provides principals with a realistic, practitioner-focused overview of effective teaching strategies and evaluation techniques. Participants will be provided with knowledge, skills, and techniques to improve the effectiveness of their existing teaching staff. Practicing principals will serve as peer coaches. Guided by peer coaches, participants will develop a personal plan of implementation.

  • How to apply research-based effective teaching strategies
  • Techniques for coaching and providing feedback for improved practice
  • Personalized coaching with learned strategies and techniques
  • Development of a personal implementation plan
  • Online support during implementation
