The College of Education is committed to excellence in teacher preparation. Candidates are expected to develop and demonstrate through performance, the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to become professional educators. The student teaching experience provides a time for learning, experimentation, critical analysis, practice, and reflection. An inquiry oriented experience is supported by a strong teacher/mentor relationship.

The College of Education has developed partnerships with 60 different school districts including those in Aldine, Texas and Queensland, Australia from which you may request a student teaching placement.  In addition, there is the potential to seek placement in Minnesota school districts that other MNSCU universities access for student teaching.  You will be required to choose from these districts where we (or another MNSCU university) have contractual agreements. Placement requests, other than those outlined above, cannot be honored.

***Interested in student teaching in Australia?  Click here for a presentation.  For more information contact Carol Werhan.

The student teaching experience begins with a request for a background check.  The student background check is based on national databases and a fee is required.  You will need to have a credit card ready to process your request.  Please click on the image below to start this process.  After the request for a background check is completed, please follow the directions for compiling the Application Packet and other steps.
