Licensure requirements vary by state, and state licensing boards may make changes to these requirements from time to time. Graduate students in the Mental Health Counseling program preparing for licensure should stay current with licensing requirements for the state(s) where they plan to work, and should include this information when seeking academic advising from CSP faculty.
The M.S. in Mental Health Counseling includes the coursework currently required for application to the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to take the National Counseling Examination (NCE), and the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) or Examination of Clinical Counseling Practice (ECCP). These exams are used by Minnesota and a number of states as part of the licensing process for LPC and/or LPCC.
