Description of
lesson:
The goal of this developmental guidance lesson is to help students learn about their attitudes and their impact on self, others, school, and family. This lesson would be effective in upper elementary, middle school, or early junior high classrooms.
Procedures:
1) Have students create a book using construction paper. Have students staple 7 blank sheets together to form the book.
2) Have students glue their photo to the cover of the book. If they do not have a photo, have them draw a picture of themselves.
3) Next, have the whole class of students name as many feelings as they can and write them on the board or overhead projector.
4) Then, have students write the feelings that best describe them on each page of the book.
5) Then, using magazines and newspaper articles, have students cut out and glue pictures or stories that describe each feeling to the pages in the book.
6) When students are finished with their books, talk about the importance of feelings with the students. Ask students to explain how feelings change within a day, week, month, or year. Talk about what it feels like to not be able to express your feelings.
7) When the projects are complete, display selected books in a display in the guidance office.
