Title of Lesson:  Personality Types

Description of the Lesson: 

The following classroom guidance lesson was developed at Mankato East High School by Janell Sipe (Professional School Counseling Intern).  This lesson was developed to meet the Minnesota Graduation Standard for Career Decision Making, 3501.0467, learning area eight for the 9th grade.

Purpose:  To identify characteristics associated with personality types.

Learner Outcomes: 

Students will have completed the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, discussed characteristics of the different types and determined those characteristics which are “like” them and which are not.

Activity:

Counselor will read through directions of the Keirsey.  The students will complete the assessment in class.  Counselor will assist students with the scoring tool on the back of the assessment.  Students will then identify their personality types and what characteristics are associated with their type.  Students will discuss whether the assessment and interpretation is in their opinion like them or not like them.  Students will discuss how their personality type fits with the career they have chosen for their career unit.  Counselor will summarize how interests/personality impact career choices.

This developmental guidance lesson relates to the Minnesota Graduation Standard, 6501.0467, preparatory content standards in learning area eight:  Decision-making – Career Exploration.  This lesson also fits in the Personal/social Domain of the Minnesota Model of Developmental Guidance and Counseling.
