Graduate Degree Programs

Dear Educator,

Graduate Degree Programs are coming to a location near you. Minnesota State University, Mankato is currently forming Cohort Learning groups as an opportunity to complete a Master's in Educational Leadership, a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, and licensure as a K–12 Principal, Director of Special Education or Director of Community Education.

Cohort Learning Groups Offer

  • Initial competency assessments for each cohort member in the area of licensure or degree
  • An assessment of each cohort member's leadership skills and the development of a profile of competencies
  • A "learning community" experience throughout the program to foster engaged learning among cohort members and MSU faculty
  • Situational observations in which cohort members will present a profile of leadership skills or portfolio for demonstration of competencies.

Program Format and Schedule

A suggested program schedule will be structured to meet the needs of the cohort members. Modifications of this suggested schedule can occur based on the cohort group.

Instructional strategies and schedule will consist of onsite learning and the use of technology. Technology methods may involve discussion boards, chat rooms, email and video.

An example of a format for a three (3) credit semester class could be structured as follows:

4 Hours on a Friday, 5:00–9:00 or 4:30–8:30
4 hours on Saturday, 8:00–12:00 or 9:00–1:00
4 hours of online instruction using a variety of technology methods.

During a semester there could be 8 sessions of 4 hour blocks onsite instruction and 4 sessions of 4 hour blocks of online instruction.
