Department of Educational Leadership
|
If you’re eager to move into K-12 administrative roles, the Department of Educational Leadership has everything you need for licensure training and putting your passion for excellence in education into action.
If you’re pursuing a Community Education Director license, you’ll obtain licensure though the MS in Educational Leadership program.
If you’re seeking a K-12 role such as principal, Director of Special Education or superintendent, your licensure is obtained through the Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.
As a specialist student, you’ll take part in fieldwork for each course, either at the school where you currently teach or at a site we’ll help you arrange. You’ll be encouraged to choose research topics based on real problems your schools are tackling so that your classroom experience will have relevance to your professional life.
And when you finish, you’ll be completely up to speed. All of your coursework will align with Minnesota Licensure Competency requirements, ensuring that you’ll be ready to apply for the K-12 principal licensure or the Director of Special Education licensure upon completion of the program.
The Specialist in Educational Leadership for Administrative Licensure is offered on campus as well as the 7700 France facility in Edina. Additional locations are offered on an as-needed basis.
A Plan of Study for Specialist in Educational Leadership for Administrative Licensure is 30 credits.
Students who complete the Specialist degree may transfer ten credits toward an Ed.D.

As a non-licensure specialist student, you’ll be encouraged to develop meaningful learning experiences in a variety of settings. You’ll complement those experiences with careful thought and reason, through seminars and elective courses uniting practical skills with analysis and theory. And you’ll gain the knowledge base required to become a globally competent, ethical leader, ready to advance your community and your world.
