Be a K-12 Administrator
If you’re seeking a K-12 role such as principal, Director of Special Education or superintendent, your licensure is obtained through the Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.
As a specialist student, you’ll take part in fieldwork for each course, either at the school where you currently teach or at a site we’ll help you arrange. You’ll be encouraged to choose research topics based on real problems your schools are tackling so that your classroom experience will have relevance to your professional life.
Minnesota State University Mankato prepares candidates for administrative licensure in the following areas; K-12 Principals, Superintendents, Director of Special Education and Director of Community Education. MNSU’s Administrative Licensure program is compliant with all requirements per Minnesota Administrative Rule, 3512, Licensure of School Personnel.
The program is offered consistently at two locations, Minnesota State University Mankato campus and our Edina location, 7700 France Avenue.

Plan of Study
The Specialist in Educational Leadership & K-12 Administrative Licensure is a 30 credit program. A plan of study is arranged for cohorts of students to move through the program together. New cohorts begin regularly throughout the year.
