Admission to the College of Education’s Reading Licensure Program can be done as a certificate program or as part of a Master’s program or non-degree seeking. Listed below are the steps required by Minnesota State University, Mankato and the College of Education. If you have questions about which option is best for you, please contact the coordinator of the program, Dr. Maureen Prenn at 507-389-5447 or maureen.prenn@mnsu.edu.

Master’s of Science in Educational Studies : Reading or Reading Licensure certificate:

  1. Copy of current licensure
  2. Completed [PDF] Application for Graduate Study (166 KiB). Please note that this is a two page application. Page two must be submitted in duplicate. An online application is also available
  3. Two official transcripts from the degree–granting institution(s)
  4. Completed [PDF] immunization form (53 KiB).
  5. Evidence of 2.75 GPA or a GRE score of 500 (minimum) on one or more portions of the exam.
  6. Payment of $40 fee to the College of Graduate Studies & Research.
  7. Letter addressed to coordinator of graduate programs stating interest for admission.
  8. Two [PDF] Recommendation Form (179 KiB) addressing the professional competence of interested candidates from school administrator.

Non-degree seeking option

If you have a Bachelors / Masters Degree and you may still want to take a few courses without working toward another degree. In this case you should apply as a non degree seeking student. We would like to inform that we would offer just one course under this category.

  1. Completed [PDF] Application for Graduate Study (166 KiB). Please note that this is a two page application. Page two must be submitted in duplicate. An online application is also available.
  2. Two official transcripts from the degree-granting institution(s)
  3. Completed [PDF] immunization form (53 KiB)
  4. Evidence of 2.75 GPA or a GRE score of 500 (minimum) on one or more portions of the exam
  5. Non-degree applicants are not required to pay an application fee. A $40 fee is required of applicants applying to a degree program.
  6. Register for classes upon admission to the Graduate College.
