Note: Students will be recommended for licensure when all requirements for licensure have been fulfilled. KSP 609 (3) Research Methods
The research process is one that is complicated, and nonlinear, and very often difficult for students to understand and see its strengths and weaknesses. This course will introduce students to research methodologies as applied to research and evaluation. The course will focus on developing skills and applying different methodologies in a research plan.
KSP 610 (3) Scholarly Writing
After candidates complete their research course this course is designed to provide a learning experience in utilizing techniques and procedures in scholarly writing in completing their capstone project.
KSP 611 (3) Teacher as Researcher: Classroom Inquiry
Teachers use observations and informal data to learn more about their own classrooms. This course is designed to provide learning experiences in using research techniques and procedures in actual field research.
KSP 617 (3) Foundations of Information Centers in Society
The course compares and contrasts the social, cultural, and educational role of public, academic, school and special libraries in society.
KSP 621 (3) Information Resources
This course examines the process for the evaluation and selection of information resources for the K-12 school library media center. These include print and non-print materials used for research.
KSP 622 (3) Materials for Children
This course examines the process for the evaluation and selection of fiction, non-fiction and electronic materials for children in grades K-6.
KSP 628 (3) Instructional Design and Production for Digital Learning
The course explores the history and current philosophies surrounding distance education. Curriculum design for online distance education will be examined.
KSP 630 (3) Materials for Young Adults
This course examines the process for the evaluation and selection of fiction, non-fiction and electronic materials for children in grades 7-12
KSP 631 (3) Organization, Management, Leadership and Administration of Media Centers
The course covers the mission, goals and policies surrounding effective school library media program administration. Students explore the current standards and assessments surrounding the administration of the of school library program.
KSP 634 (3) Instructional Design and Production of Resources
This course covers the design and production of multimedia materials, their evolution and their integration throughout the curriculum. Proper instructional design techniques will be examined.
KSP 635 (3) Information Literacy Skills and the Curriculum
The course explores the instructional and curriculum role of the school library media specialist. Students explore the current standards and assessments surrounding the teaching and integrating information literacy skills into the total curriculum.
KSP 698 (1-8) Internship
Under-supervision of both graduate faculty within the K-12 and Secondary Department and appropriate cooperating supervisors of external agencies, the student will complete an internship experience which allows opportunity to apply and strengthen knowledge and skills acquired within the graduate program. (Four credits of internship are required for Media Generalist Licensure).
