Candidates are required to actively participate in field-based coursework throughout the Library Media Education program. The field experiences are staggered throughout the program and require that each candidate spend time each semester in a library media center during normal school hours (8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday - Friday). Candidates will need to make arrangement with their building administrator and library media specialist to participate in field experiences.
Field experiences provide opportunities for candidates to put theory into practice in a school library media center. During field experiences, candidates will become familiar with specific school-related issues, strategies to assist student learning and apply strategies to help students study and learn within a school library media center.
Throughout the program students will be required to keep an electronic portfolio of their core asssesments with reflections. The portfolio will be a core assessment for the program as well as assessed as a core project during the internship. The portfolio can be created using Microsoft Front Page and uploaded to a personal website provided by MNSU or their school website. Professional Development will be provided in web page development. It is imperative that students participate in the professional development.
