The Master of Science in Teaching and Learning is designed to provide practicing teachers with the flexibility to custom design a Masters degree to meet their individual needs. Candidates may choose from a variety of certificates listed below or individual courses depending on their program design and plan of study.

Improving Teaching and Learning (9 credits)

  • KSP 612: Differentiated Instruction is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 663: Curriculum Development and Leadership is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 613: Managing and Monitoring Student Learning is offered during the summer.

Learning Communities and Leadership (9 credits)

  • KSP 665: Teacher as Leader is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 641: Trends in Classroom Learning Communities is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 657: Professional Learning Communities is offered during the summer.

Data-Driven Decision Making to Improve Student Learning (9 credits)

  • KSP 675: Using Data to Improve Student Learning is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 611: Action Research to Improve Student Learning is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 640: Data and Assessments is offered during the summer.

Instructional Media in the Classroom (9 credits)

  • KSP 619: Technology Integration for the K-12 Teacher is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 624: Integrating Multimedia into the K-12 Classroom is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 629: Communicating Electronically with the Learning Community is offered during the summer.

Certificate in Culturally Responsive Teaching (9 credits)

  • KSP 601: Education for a Multicultural Society is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 644: School, Family and Community Partnerships is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 638: Literacy and Bilingualism is offered during the summer.

Student Development and Learning (9 credits)

  • KSP 659: Character Development, Ethical and Moral Reasoning is offered during the fall semester.
  • KSP 672: Spirituality and Learner Development in Education is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 652: Advances in Student Development and Learning is offered during the summer.

Research Core (7 credits)

  • KSP 609: Research Methods is offered during the fall, spring and summer semester.
  • KSP 610: Scholarly Writing is offered during the fall, spring and summer semester.
  • KSP 611: Teacher as Researcher: Classroom Inquiry is offered during the spring semester.
  • KSP 694: Alternate Plan Paper is offered with permission from your advisor.
  • KSP 695: Creative Projects is offered with permission from your advisor.
  • KSP 699: Thesis is offered with permission from your advisor.
