Program Design:

Master of Science in Teaching and Learning

The Master of Science in Teaching and Learning is designed to be flexible in meeting the needs of the individual, cohort or school district. Certificates will be offered on a rotating two-year cycle or by request from a cohort or school district. Courses within certificates may be offered on week nights, weekends, face to face, on-line or as hybrids. You may also choose to complete:

  • A single class,
  • A single certificate,
  • Three 9 credit certificates and the research core for the M.S. degree, or
  • Two 9 credit certificates, plus nine credits of electives, and the research core for the M.S. degree.

Customized Certificate Offerings

If teachers in a given school district, or neighboring school districts, are interested in a particular certificate program, a cohort may be formed and courses offered on-site. Program faculty are available for school site visits to discuss cohort formation. Coursework:

The course work within the Master of Science in Teaching and Learning is designed to be responsive to current needs and trends in K-12 education:

  • Assessment and accountability, including data-gathering and reporting.
  • Rapidly shifting student demographics in K-12 schools.
  • Literacy and bilingualism.
  • Engaging students in active learning, and differentiated instruction.
  • Communicating with students, parents and the community through technology, using multimedia in the classroom.
  • Developing partnerships with parents and community.
  • Student development and learning, including character education.
  • Classroom and professional learning communities, addressing and resolving educational concerns.
