Throughout the program, Candidates complete courses within the program, electives, as well as practicum or field-based courses. The time involved can be and often is demanding. Field-based courses require special sacrifices. from the candidates, in which the Candidates often designs and incorporates teaching and student learning techniques into their classroom, resulting in the collection and analysis of classroom data.
Candidates are required to actively participate in a minimum of one K-12 field-based courses/practicum throughout the Specialist Degree. Field-based course work provides opportunities for candidates to put theory into practice in a K-12 or 5-12 environment. During field experiences, candidates will become familiar with specific school-related issues, strategies to assist student learning and apply strategies to help students study and learn within the classroom environment.
Students must complete a minimum of 50% of all graduate credit at the 600 level, excluding thesis or APP credits and must maintain a grade point average of "B" or above in all coursework.
