Minnesota Teacher Alternative Preparation Program

Minnesota Teacher Alternative Preparation Program

Minnesota State University's College of Education offers an alternative pathway into the teaching profession leading to teacher licensure for those who already have completed a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following licensable areas: Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Mathematics, Business Education, and English as a Second Language (TESL). The program emphasis is placed upon facilitating graduate students in strengthening and broadening their knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to function effectively as educators.

The Minnesota Teacher Alternative Preparation Program (MN TAPP) is designed for recent graduates, mid-career individuals and middle-age retirees from other professions who hold at least a college degree, and are steeped in relevant content to transition into teaching without the hardship of leaving the paid workforce. Instead of requiring participants to follow a traditional approach for teacher preparation of academic course work and supervised student teaching before taking over a classroom. MN TAPP works with candidates hired on a limited license and assigned their own classroom.
