Responsibilities of a School-Based Mentor

1. Honor the time commitment you have made to the candidate by being consistent and available.
2. Foster a positive work-related relationship with the candidate.
3. Work with the candidate to encourage and advance educational goals.
4. Expose the candidate to the profession of teaching and the importance of school/community-related skills needed for success.
5. Demonstrate the relevance of the following values:

   • teamwork
   • responsibility
   • loyalty
   • work ethic
6. Be non-judgmental and accepting of other lifestyles, cultures, socio-economic status, religious affiliations, etc.
