Applying for Licensure

Application materials for a MN teaching license are found at the Minnesota Department of Education web site at:
http://education.state.mn.us

 BEFORE PROCEEDING:

It is highly recommended that you have evidence of graduation and that you have met ALL Minnesota state testing requirements prior to applying online for licensure.  Once the fee is submitted, you have 60 days to obtain recommendation from Minnesota State Mankato.  Students who apply too early will be in jeopardy of losing their processing fee submitted to MDE.

Instructions for a First-Time Licensure Applicant:

  1. Go to the Minnesota Department of Education website (link shown above).
  2. Click on Teacher Support and then choose Educator Licensing.
  3. Under Section Links choose Apply for or Renew Your License.
  4. Scroll down and select CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR FIRST TIME LICENSE
  5. You are now ready to set up your USER ID and Password.
  6. From this point, you will follow the step-by-step instructions from the Minnesota Department of Education.   You will move from screen to screen upon submittal of information.   If problems, contact MDE at 651-582-8691.
  7. Upon completion of the online application, the Department of Education will have received your application, your conduct review statement, and your fees.  You have sixty days from this point to submit your supplemental materials which include the university’s recommendation, MDE checklist, and fingerprint card.

The following information is what you must submit to the Licensure Coordinator in the College of Education Dean’s Office:

  1.  Verification of Completion of a State-Approved Licensure Program Form – This form is downloaded as part of the online application process and you will need to complete the top portion of this verification form, indicating name, address, date of birth, phone number, and processing number.  The Licensure Officer in the Dean’s Office will finalize this form (complete bottom two-thirds of form).
  1. Fingerprint Card – It must be a Minnesota Department of Education fingerprint card.   These are obtainable via MDE link online, or at the Dean’s Office, College of Education.  To have your prints taken, go to any law enforcement center or contact our Security Office for an appointment (Carol Jensen, 507-389-2111).

Upon completion, please send above two items directly to:
