Professional Ed

Candidates seeking initial licensure in Professional Education will need to work with three offices within the College of Education; the Office of Academic Advising, the Office of Field Experiences and the Office of Professional Education.

Office of Academic Advising

The Office of Academic Advising assists and advises candidates through the admission process; admission to your major, admission to the Professional Education program and the Praxis exam. All candidates seeking initial licensure must be admitted to Professional Education prior to enrollment in upper division coursework in their major. Interested candidates should review the information on the Office of Academic Advising website.

Office of Field Experience

The Office of Field Experience provides services and support related to field experiences as well as student teaching in the P-12 environment. All candidates seeking initial licensure must participate in a variety of field experience within the K-12 environment, culminating in a 16 week student teaching experience at an approved institution. Here you will find information on the field placement process and the student teaching placement and assessment process.

Office of Professional Education

The Office of Professional Education provides information for candidates and faculty on professional standards, assessments and policies and procedures. Located at this site are links to COE standards and assessment guidelines, a listing of relevant policies and procedures information on the Minnesota Board of Teaching requirements and standards, Minnesota standards (PEPER) and national standards (NCATE) for education programs.
