The review process defined in the Professional Education Program Evaluation Report
(PEPER II) for continuing approval of initially approved programs (specific field
subject matter) builds on the foundation of the findings determined/evidenced in the
initial program review. Subject matter standards for each field are identified in
subpart 3 of specific licensure rules found in Board Rules 8710.3000-6400.
Subject matter standards define the central concepts, tools of inquiry and structures of the discipline(s), as well as aspects of teaching and learning unique to that discipline. The initial review process focused primarily on the review of broad categorical standards identified in subparts A, B, C, D, etc.
Program Reviewers verified the inclusion of a sufficient amount of sub-standards (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) that would evidence "enough" preparation in the subject matter deemed necessary for recommending initial approval. Program reviewers also indicated where the evidence of standards was absent, weak or deficient. For continuing approval, the report must reflect the activity and efforts of each program to include and address all standards, not just the "broad" categories of standards (A1, A2, A3, A4, etc.). Additionally, any standards that were reported by reviewers to be not evident, or deficient at the time of the last review, must be addressed or clarified. This information was reported to each program in the "Reviewer Finding Summary" at the time of the last review.
