Candidates in all College of Education programs are expected to demonstrate minimum
satisfactory progress in academic achievement and professional development, including
performance in clinical experiences and development of dispositions.

Academic Achievement
- Maintain 2.5 - 3.0 GPA in specific areas
Practicum/Internship Experiences
- Forum for demonstrating progress
- Must earn a passing grade
- Unsatisfactory score on any one area may result in candidate not moving forward
Professional Dispositions and Ethical Criteria
- Candidates must demonstrate commitment and adherence to relevant professional dispositions
- Candidates must demonstrate commitment and adherence to program-specific ethical standards
- Candidates will be evaluated on ability to interact and communicate professionally with colleagues,
clientele, administrative assistants and faculty.
- Candidates should show emotional maturity and sensitivity in a variety of cultural, social and
professional settings
- Candidates must demonstrate potential to continue developing competencies and commitments
required of professionals in the field
Student Assistance Plans
- Candidates who do not perform satisfactorily in above areas will be notified by informal
process or in writing
- Faculty assessment of seriousness of candidate's behavior determines level of intervention
- A pattern of problematic performance or behavior may call for a conference with candidate and
development of a student assistance plan
- Candidate behaviors clearly detrimental or harmful to welfare of the candidate could result
in immediate non-continuance or expulsion from the program with no prior warning
Appeal Procedure
- Candidates may appeal an admission or continuation decision
- Candidates may submit a written appeal to members of the departmental committee or the
Professional Education Review Board
- Candidate appeals should be submitted within two weeks of receiving oral or written notice
- Candidates may further appeal to the Dean of the College of Education in writing with copies
to the department or review board within two weeks of the response to the original appeal.
