Guidelines for evaluating past graduates for current licensure
General Information
This policy applies to former MSU students who have completed all degree
or licensure requirements but have never applied for Minnesota licensure.
Candidates applying for licensure after September 1, 2001
will need to meet new licensure requirements, including all Board of Teaching
competencies in subject areas and Standards of Effective Practice. All sections
of the Praxis I and II examinations must be successfully completed. Please note
that MSU can only recommend candidates for those programs for which the College
of Education has Board of Teaching approval.
Candidates may appeal to the Professional Ed Review Board.
Requirements completed within past 5 years:
- Verification of new licensure program requirements
- Verification of professional education dispositions
- Accept candidate's completed program and successful student teaching.
- Recommend for licensure.
Requirements completed within the past five to seven years:
- Department Chair, in consultation with Coordinator of Professional Ed, completes
program evaluation to meet current requirements.
- Verification of professional education dispositions
- Partial student teaching required for recommendation for licensure.
Requirements completed more than seven years ago:
- Department chair, in consultation with Coordinator of Professional Ed, completes
full program evaluation to meet new requirements as well as update pedagogical knowledge.
- Verification of professional education dispositions
- Full-time student teaching required for recommendation for licensure.
