Minnesota State University-Mankato has approved a change in our department name, effective Fall 2006 semester. As you most likely know, we had been called "Department of Educational Studies: Special Populations." With this approval, we are now the "Department of Special Education" and will use SPED as a department abbreviation for documents, courses and the such.
Over the course of the year, you will see the new title for the department replace all old references to ESSP. Some of these changes have already taken place. These will include updated forms and resources found not only from our Home Page, but elsewhere, across the variety of other resources maintained on the MSU "Supersite." These changes will not all take place at once. Rather, you may find for example, that courses posted for the Spring 2007 semester are listed on the university course schedule page as "ESSP XXX" rather than "SPED XXX." Rest assured that while these are the old designation, they are still our courses. While the changes may result in a temporary conflict of titles, all references to the old department title are being up updated as quickly as possible.
