What are the benefits of the In-Person Elementary Education degree?

When can I start?

The program has a cohort that starts in the Fall and Spring semester. The admission process opens in September and January. Priority consideration for the following semester’s admission ends 3 weeks later. If spots remain in the cohort, admissions will continue to be received. New cohorts start the semester after students apply to the program.

Can I apply to both the online program and the in-person program?

No. You can only apply for one program at a time.

Can I apply to a different program if I am denied from the program I applied to?

Yes. You can apply to a different program the following semester.

If I am accepted to the in-person program, can I then switch to the online program?

No. Once you have been accepted to one of the programs (either in-person or online), you are expected to remain in your cohort throughout the program until completion.

Can I complete my general education requirements while in the Elementary Education In-Person program?

No. The In-Person Program is a rigorous program with 4 classes (16 credits) during the first 3 semesters, and full time Student Teaching during the final semester. In line with university practices, students should expect 1-4 hours of readings, course activities, and assignments each week for every credit of courses, unless approval is granted. ALL general education requirements must be completed before starting the Elementary Education In-Person Program.

Can I take the program as a part time student?

No, the In-Person Program is a rigorous program with 4 classes (16 credits) during the first 3 semesters, and full time Student Teaching during the final semester. In line with university practices, students should expect 1-4 hours of readings, course activities, and assignments each week for every credit of courses.

How long will it take to complete this program?

Typically, it will take you two years, four semesters to complete the program. Program courses are offered in the Spring and Fall semesters only.

How will I complete field experiences and student teaching?

The university helps with finding a school placement up to 60 minutes away from the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus. For the final two semesters, you may choose to be placed in the Metro area, within 60 minutes of Minnesota State University, Mankato's campus on 7700 France Ave. Courses will all be held in-person on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus.

Can I get assistance with applying for financial aid?

Yes! Minnesota State University, Mankato, offers various financial aid options including grants (Grow Your Own), loans and scholarships. To be considered for any grants or loans, students must first submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Does this program qualify for Minnesota Department of Education Grow Your Own Grant programs?

Yes, the B.S. Elementary Education In-Person program and MSU, Mankato College of Education is a PELSB approved teacher preparation provider. This program aligns with the Grow Your Own requirements and fits the schedule for individuals working while earning their degree and license.
