A Scholarship to Honor Dennis Fossum

Award Background

In 2020, a scholarship was established to honor Dennis Fossum, a two-time alumnus with degrees in Social Studies and School Library Media. Mr. Fossum taught and served as a leader at the University of North Dakota. He is providing a $2,000 award to students pursuing a degree in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology at Minnesota State University Mankato.

Uses and Purposes

One $2,000 award will be presented during the 2023-24 academic year to graduate students pursuing a degree in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology who have successfully completed 6 credit hours in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato at the time of award. The award may be used to offset expenses incurred while attending at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Application Guidelines

1. The call for applications will be made early in the fall semester to all students pursuing a degree in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology and enrolled in the upcoming semester.

2. Criteria for Scholarship Applicants:

a. A minimum 3.0 cumulative graduate grade point average (GPA) prior to the application deadline.

b. Successful completion of 6 credit hours in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato at the time of award.

c. Students must be enrolled in MS in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded.

3. Completion of an application packet is required. This application packet will consist of the following:

a. An application form with a statement (300 words max.) of describing your background, rational, and purpose detailing what the award would mean to the applicant and how the award would facilitate the applicant’s work in School Library Information Studies or Education Technology.

b. An essay (500 words max.) stating the nature of their library or technology experience, and a personal statement of their view of what they anticipate accomplishing in the profession, emphasizing experiences that indicate a potential for leadership and commitment to technology and innovation.

c. An unofficial transcript supporting the minimum 3.0 GPA.

4. The KSP Scholarship Award Committee will select the award recipient. All decisions of the KSP Award Committee are final.
