The Department of Counseling and Student Personnel offers graduate programs at the masters and doctorate levels. We believe personal connections and honoring diverse perspectives are at the heart of student success. People with an interest to develop helping and advocacy skills, be academically challenged, and engage in meaningful research are warmly encouraged to apply.

Accreditation

CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) was formed in 1981 in cooperation with the American Counseling Association to promote the advancement of quality educational programs in counselor training. 

The Department of Counseling and Student Personnel (CSP) at Minnesota State Mankato is currently CACREP accredited at the doctoral level and at the master's level in two specialty areas: CACREP Accredited logo

Licensure and Certifications

Through thorough CACREP accredited coursework and clinical practice, graduates that obtain a degree through the Department of Counseling and Student Personnel are prepared to be eligible for licensure and certification at the state and national level.  

  • Counselor Licensure (LPC, LPCC) in many states, including Minnesota 

  • Marriage & Family Therapist Licensure (LMFT) in many states, including Minnesota 

  • National Certified Counselor (NCC) 

  • National Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) 

  • Play Therapist Registration (RPT, RPT-S)  

Doctor of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision

Minnesota State Mankato’s applied Doctorate of Education degree (Ed.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision is a gateway to opportunities in the fields of counselor education, higher education and advanced clinical practice in professional counseling and supervision.

Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel

The Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel is designed to prepare graduate students to serve real-world needs of clients and students in one of two emphasis areas: Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling.

Master of Science in College Student Affairs

The Master of Science in College Student Affairs program is designed to prepare dynamic leaders in higher education for a wide variety of positions through coursework that focuses on student affairs administration, college student development, and counseling skills from a social justice framework.

Clinical Lab Facility

The CSP clinical lab facility has been and continues to be in development for over three decades. The lab with its rich history and state-of-the-art technology is meant to augment and enhance the training of students in both the Masters and Doctorate programs.
