Application and Admission Requirements for the Master of Science (M.S) in Counseling and Student Personnel

Applications for the Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel with emphasis areas in College Student Affairs, Mental Health Counseling, and Professional School Counseling are accepted through January 15th.

Application Checklist

*All application materials will be uploaded to the GradCAS Application system

1. Online Graduate Application

Submit the Online Graduate Application

  • Create a GradCAS login
  • $40 Non-Refundable Application Fee
  • Complete and submit the application

2. Transcripts

Upload unofficial transcripts from all previous college coursework to the Academic History section.

Submit Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to:

Minnesota State University, Mankato
Office of Admissions
122 Taylor Center
Mankato, MN 56001

*MSU, Mankato and any other Minnesota State Institution do not need to arrange for receipt of transcripts from these institutions. 

3. References

Three letters of recommendation focusing upon your academic potential as well as your promise to become an effective counselor/helping professional. One of the recommendations must be from an instructor or academic advisor.

Request recommendations from references in the Program Materials section.

4. Resume/CV

Upload a current resume to the Supporting Information section.

5. Personal Statement Form

Complete the personal statement form by answering the questions prompted in the Program Materials section.

6. Test Scores

If required, send test scores to the College of Graduate Studies and Research directly from the Educational Testing Service using Minnesota State University, Mankato’s ETS code 6677.

*Attainment of a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the last two years of undergraduate study. If the applicant’s GPA during this two-year period is below 3.0, the student must take either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Scores for one of these examinations (if required) must be submitted.
