Special Education Application

Apply to either the Undergrad or Graduate Special Education programs.

Applying to the Undergraduate Special Education ABS Program:

1. Apply to the University. If you are already a Minnesota State University student, you do not need to complete this step. If you are not a Minnesota State University student yet, you can go ahead and complete the Special Education ABS application, but you will also need to apply to the university.
2. The application for the Spring 2027 cohort is now open. Before you go to the application link, be sure to have prepared the documents listed below. You will be including them electronically as part of the application to the undergraduate Special Education ABS program:
   
   • Names and email addresses of two professional references
   • PDF of your DARS report
   • Essay (include with application)
     • Essay should be approximately 500 words on the following question: The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or a change in beliefs. What did you learn from the experience? 
3. Once you have all of your materials prepared, complete the SPED ABS Application. The application is due October 5, 2026. You will receive an email by October 9, 2026, with information on the next steps. *The department will continue to accept applications after October 5th, but please also email the  undergraduate coordinator to let them know to expect your application materials.

Applying for the Graduate Programs:

1. Apply to the University first. If you are already an Minnesota State University student, you do not need to complete this step.
2. For all graduate programs, please complete the Graduate Studies application.
