Preschool I Room

We spend much of our time communicating, reading, and playing both indoors and outdoors. The children in this room are learning important skills through their play such as self- help skills, life skills, math, science, and literacy skills. The children have several opportunities every day to work on social skills, problem solving skills, and conflict resolution.

 

 Self-help skills are learned through:

*dressing and undressing

*hanging outerwear

*putting toys away

*cleaning spills

*serving themselves during mealtimes

 

Life skills are learned through:

*dramatic play experiences (dress-up, dolls, toys dishes, play tools, pretend resturant etc.)

*cleaning up/putting away toys, clothes, blankets, etc...)

*serving themselves during mealtimes

 

Math/Science/Literacy skills are learned through:

*books (reading with individually or in small or large group)

*games (we have many!!!!)

*activities/games that teach counting, colors, patterns etc...through one to one correspondence

*small manipulatives tools such as crayons, pencils, puzzles, small blocks etc...

*sensory table(wet and dry items such as water, snow, and sand plus other nature items. Games and manipulative items are used also.

*gardening outside

 

Chlidren practice their social skills each day by:

*communicating their needs and wants with adults and other children

*asking other children if they can join in their play

*telling other children how they feel when involved in a conflict

 

Children work on problem solving skills and conflict resolution skills:

*by interacting with peers their age

*during the regular course of each day through modeling and staff interaction

 

The Preschool 1 Room is licensed for 27 preschoolers with a ratio of 1 staff person to 6 children.

 

 

Preschool I Daily Schedule 

7:30-10:00 Open Play: (includes individual play)
Children may choose from various activities in Preschool 1 and Preschool 2 Rooms.

8:30-9:00 Breakfast is served during open play.

10:00 Large Group Time:
Children are provided with music, stories, flannel board stories, puppets, finger plays, and discussion as language building activities.

10:15-11:25 Outside Play/Large Motor Time:
During outside play children are provided with large muscle activities including: tricycles, scooters, sand play, games, climbing, basketball, and sledding. Books, science activities, and art activities such as painting are brought outside during this time as well. If the weather is colder or hot, the time spent outside is less. During inclement weather children play in the hallway. Large motor activities include running, scooters, hula-hoops, basketball, games, and dancing.

11:30-12:30 Lunch/Clean Up/Bathrooms:
Children are provided with healthy meals representing all the food groups. Meals are served family style. The children serve themselves and are encouraged to eat what they take and try all foods.

12:30-1:15 Rest time/nap:
Stories and soft music are played while the teachers rub the children’s backs.

1:15-2:00 Wake Up/Quiet Activities/Outside play:
Children may choose books, puzzles, or quiet games during inclement weather. During nice weather children will go outside upon waking up.

2:00-2:45 Open Play/Outdoor Play:
Children may choose from various activities in the classroom during inclement weather. Children will play outdoors during nicer weather.

2:45 Large Group Time:
Children are provided with music, stories, flannel board stories, puppets, finger plays, and discussion as language building activities.

3:00-3:15 Snack

3:15-4:45 Outside time/Learning stations:
Children have the option of playing outdoors and/or participating in an art project, cooking project, or science activity. During inclement weather children will rotate between the hallway for large motor time, and the classroom for Learning Stations or open play.

4:45-5:30 Open Play: (includes individual play)
Children may choose from various activities in the Preschool 1 and Preschool 2 Rooms
