Application for Licensure
Understanding the process
You must start the licensure process with the University before the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). We will walk you through the licensure process and what and how to complete everything with PELSB.
Please note that the verification process does take time. MOST requests are completed within two weeks; however, they are processed on a first-come basis and hinge on your specific situation. We are required to retrieve all your records and documents. It also depends on the time of year, and the number of verifications that are in the query.

You are applying for Out of State Licensure
Please note that even if you plan to teach in another state it is recommended that you first apply for your Minnesota license.
The licensure process varies by state. Before you begin this process, it is important that you have taken the first step and contacted the licensure state department within the state you are seeking licensure. Only they will be able to explain their licensure process to you. Every state has a different process and they will tell you what type of "verification" they will need. It is the applicant’s responsibility to find out what is needed to apply for out of state licensure.
